Beyond the Pill team wins Design Challenge at 2017 YTH Live Conference

Beyond the Pill team members, Marta Cabral and Jill Eversole, win YTH Live 48-hour Design Challenge.

At the Youth + Tech + Health (YTH) Live Conference in May of 2017, Beyond the Pill team members, Marta Cabral and Jill Eversole, participated in a 48-hour Design Challenge hosted by FHI360YTH, and IDEO.org.

Marta and Jill teamed up with a third conference attendee, Aliza Hoffman, from the d.school at Stanford University. They learned human-centered design concepts and skills, participated in flash workshops, and engaged in rapid prototyping.

The team pitched their idea and prototype to a panel of judges at the closing plenary, and ended up winning the challenge! Their award-winning idea was to collect data on adolescents’ opinions about birth control by leveraging sponsored content on social media platforms, such as Snapchat, using an elimination-style game to assess users’ preferences regarding contraceptive methods and side effects.

Following the conference, the team participated in a brainstorming workshop with YTH and FHI 360 to continue developing the winning idea. FHI 360 and YTH will continue to work to turn the idea into reality.
