Our Research
The Beyond the Pill research program investigates policy-relevant questions that transform contraceptive care. Our research centers people facing significant barriers to contraceptive care and limits to bodily autonomy, especially youth and people living in restrictive states.
Contraception & Reproductive Autonomy
How are contraceptive access and reproductive autonomy connected? How do people make decisions about contraception, and how can we help ensure that their preferences are met? Our research informs public policy, counseling practice, and programmatic efforts to promote contraceptive awareness, access, reproductive autonomy, and health equity.
Contraceptive Access
Our research aims to improve access to contraception while reducing coercion and provider bias through patient-centered approaches to care. Our studies evaluate approaches to expand access to contraception, including evidence-based counseling, provision of care in varied practice settings, and elimination of unnecessary medical exams and visit requirements.
Youth Research
Young people across the United States face critical barriers to contraceptive care. We conduct research among youth populations to better understand these barriers, as well as youth preferences, beliefs, and awareness of different methods.
Global Research
Our research contributes to science, clinical practices, and policy globally in low-resource settings where maternal mortality is high. Our global work focuses on access to contraception, safe abortion, and the integration of new prevention technologies into clinical practice.
Policy Briefs & Translational Research
We use evidence from our studies to develop clinical and policy guidance that supports contraceptive access, equity, and reproductive autonomy across a variety of local and political contexts.
